What is gamma cyclodextrin and why is it in ChewQ chewable CoQ10 with Hydro-Q-SorbŪ Coenzyme Q10?Gamma cyclodextrin belongs to a class of carbohydrate compounds called Cyclodextrins. Cyclodextrins are bucket-shaped oligosaccharides produced from starch by an enzymatic process.

Due to their unique size, shape and molecular structure, cyclodextrins are able to hold/entrap Coenzyme Q10 molecules in their internal cavities. The resulting complex (Hydro-Q-SorbŪ) facilitates the dissolution of CoQ10 in aqueous media - thereby enhancing its bioavailability.

In vitro dissolution and Caco-2 cell culture studies clearly demonstrate this benefit, making ChewQŪ with Hydro QSorbŪ CoQ10 a highly bioavailable chewable solid dosage form of high potency natural Coenzyme Q10. Animal studies have also shown the enhanced absorption of CoQ10 achieved via oral administration of Hydro-Q-SorbŪ. Human studies of CoQ10 dosage forms (chewtabs and capsules) are currently underway with results expected in the near future.

NOTE: Gamma cyclodextrin utilized in the preparation of Hydro-Q-SorbŪ has been self affirmed as a GRAS ingredient (Wacker Biochem). The Coenzyme Q10 utilized in the preparation of Hydro-Q-SorbŪ has also been self affirmed as a GRAS ingredient (Kaneka America).
